Pact Update

Dearest readers, you will remember from this post, that Benji and I have made a Pact to not spend any money on unnecessary items this month.

OH THE TORTURE!

What is an "unnecessary" item, you ask? Well, a 32oz iced tea from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, or french fries from In & Out, or new clothes for the girls, or a pretzel from the mall, and so on and so forth. You see this has been pretty hard for me. And I hate to admit that and sound spoiled, but it has been. And we are not made of money people! We live on one income and we do okay. But oh my gosh, I totally see how spending money was something I did when I was bored. Especially if Benji was working a double (ie: 14-16 hours straight). It was my go-to thing to take the girls to the mall or to Target when Benji worked all day. But I'd buy unnecessary items. Now, it hasn't been all bad. We have managed to put in a couple hundred dollars into our Disney jar already!! (Applause) WHOOT! THANK YOU! And today I was doing some searching and decided to show Gwenevere a little You Tube video of some Disneyland stuff and we both got so excited we ran around screaming for about 5 minutes. I was a little concerned about how many things we could do with both Gwenevere (2 and a half) and Avalene (10 months), but GEE, there's a ton! Like the Peter Pan ride, which is one of my all time favorites! So that was just the little bit of motivation I needed to not break down and buy a coke! (Okay, we've bought soda pops from Costco, alright? But they are like .49 and it's a grocery store, so we let it slide. : )

We are going to try and go at the end of September! Yes, the September that is NEXT month! I found this awesome deal through Costco (we <3 them) and we'd need to book by 9-24-11 and heck, if we have to pay most of it then, why not go right then! We are only a few hundred dollars short of how much we need for the hotel and ticket package. We have also factored in how much we will need for gas and food. We're doing everything we can to make some extra moolah. I have sold 2 things on ebay! YES! Unfortunately, it being my first time I actually made ZERO after paying to ship the items. hahaha. Yes, I feel stupid, no I don't want to talk about it. But I've listed 3 more things and since I wised up, hopefully I can make a little more then zero dollars. Benji is also trying to earn some extra money, he has posted a sign at work saying he will dye his beard any color for 2 weeks for $200. This is truth.

Think good thoughts people!

  1. Keep up the good work Em! I can't imagine how hard thise challenge is! I am the queen of buying all things "unecessary". But it's encouraging me to be a better steward of our money, considering all those in the world who have sooooo much less then I do.

I will be envying you all the while you're with Mickey!!

  2. Wow, that is such a hard challenge! Coffee-purchases alone are causing my bank account (not to mention my waist line) to hate me. It's SO easy to spend when bored! Whenever I have free time, I'm all hmmm, what can I buy today?? I am so happy for you that you've saved so much! Definitely inspiring and encouraging to follow your example. Plus, what purchase can possibly be better than disneyland?! That's so cute that Gwen got so excited, how precious.

Good luck with the rest of your pact!!
